It was a slight typo. It should have read:

reg y a b c if !mi(b_*)

or perform the regression only on observations in which any b_* variable is not missing.

Fred - Your example had the -if- qualifier !min(b_*) . What does it
mean?

reg y a b c if !min(b_*)

is much easier than typing each of the 10 b_ variables which may be long
and easy to misspell.
