st: one or two factors?

Dear all,

I am using a survey in which respondents were asked whether they did
formal volunteering in the last 12 months. For those who said yes, they
were asked ten specific activities of formal volunteering (e1-e10) and
the frequency of such volunteering (ef). For those who said no, they
were asked questions on 10 activities of former (ie, more than 12 months
ago) volunteering.

My question is: should e* and f* conceptually and computationally
produce one or two factors? Stata (8.2) returns two factors whilst
Mplus(3.11) produces one factor, with formal volunteering showing
positive and former volunteering showing negative signs along the same
factor continuum.

I am a bit confused and hope that the experts can enlighten me.
