st: using "by" for scores in factor or PC analysis

Stata allows PCA or factor analysis with "by" option

so I can do

sort region
by region : pca var1 var2 var3

but it does not allow "score" with by!

I want to use the first component as a regional index and not being able
to generate the score defeats the purpose of generating pca "by
region"!

Any help will be appreciated,
