I am not sure if you can do that nicely. However, it looks as though you
can use the standard ".." ".." logic, provided you enclose it within
compound double quotes.

sysuse auto
hist foreign, xlabel(0 "Domestic" 1 `""Foreign" "(Europe/Japan)""')
discrete

However you need to fix the placement of the axis title.
