This is a very helpful suggestion! In addition to putting the text in the 
title bar it also puts it into the windows task bar, where I really want it 
to be.

I have added -   win man maintitle `filename'- to my startup program 
(-startlog-) that runs with each do file. For me, it is the name of the do 
file I am running that is much more important than the dta file, as I 
generally start from the same dta file and then modify it.  It would great 
if one could write to other windows as well.
