Greetings Statalist,

I wanted to thank those who responded to my request for information last week about equation editors, for use in classroom presentations and publications, to be used with the MS operating system. Thanks to Michael Ash, Nick Cox, Marcello Pagano, Nimitriy Masterov, Daniel Feenberg, Richard Williams, John Wallace, Renzo Comolli, Scott Merryman and Kit Baum.

Seems that LaTex, or some variant like MikTex or LyX are popular. Others mentioned were the equation editor which comes with MS Office, or its upgrade to MathType Pro, the equation editor with Word Perfect, and Scientific WorkPlace.

Thanks for your comments about what you liked about the programs you used, and your problems with other programs you have encountered. Thanks also for your links to websites where programs can be downloaded, or where there are examples of your favorite equation editor in use.

I've collected your comments and will pass the information onto my colleague. This will be a great help in his search for an equation editor that suits him. He has talked with some of the other faculty on the Ohio State campus, but it is nice to get an "outside" view as well.

Cheers,
Merlin Marshall
