Kathleen,

There is no completely equivalent command in Stata for SAS Proc Mixed. Some of the xt- commands implement limited features of Proc mixed. The closest Stata command is -gllamm- which is not part of official Stata and can be obtained from SSC:

findit gllamm

or SSC install gllamm

It is a great program, but lacks some capabilities of Proc Mixed such as modeling covariance structures which may be a limitation in some cases such as repeated measures data. It does have a robust and a cluster option which can be a workaround. there is also a gllamm website (GLLAMM.com maybe? I'm sure you coould turn it up with a Google search) that had a copy of a gllamm manual which may also be available from the SSC site, I'm not sure.

The author also has a new text at the Stata bookstore that includes apparently includes some discussion of using -gllamm- :
A Handbook of Statistical Analyses Using Stata, 3d ed

Hello, I'm a basic STATA user and have little to no knowledge about SAS. If
there is anyone familiar with both, can you direct me to the commands that
would be similar to the SAS "proc mixed" command? Thank you for any help.
