I could make it work if there were a way for me to control where Stata sends
all these 1K-long .tmp files. Otherwise, the file path will include folder
names that contain spaces, which I don't want to change. 

So how do you tell Stata where to send the .tmp files?

erase *.tmp 

(under Unix, 

rm *.tmp 

is more natural)
