Mr. Collins,

Unless you forgot to include it, judging from your e-mail you have
omitted the label values step.

label var group "Experimental Status";
label define grouplbl 1 "Treatment" 0 "Control";
label values group grouplbl;

Adding the third step should solve your problem.
