Definitions for upper and lower adjacent values (where whiskers go) can 
be found in page 37 of the Stata 8 Graphics manual. You're also referred 
to books by Cleveland (Visualizing Data, 1993) and Tukey (Exploratory 
Data Analysis, 1977) for further info.
