I need to know how to decompose the variance and the coefficient of
variation using two or more categorical variables. Nygard and Sandstrom
in their book, Measuring Income Inequality, say that the variance and
the squared coefficient of variation can be decomposed using the
analysis of variance (page 333). How is this done or where can I find a
reference to how it is done?
