This bug has been fixed and will be released in the next executable update.

Without getting into too much detail, the root cause has to deal with an
incorrect window reference. Clicking the variables window was exposing this
error and subsequently crashing Stata. In the meantime, the work-around is to
simply type the variable name instead of clicking it.
