In a previous message I suggested


. copy http://fmwww.bc.edu/ec-p/baum/xtpattern2.ado .

That is mixing up operating system and Stata commands. The appropriate Stata command would be


. copy http://fmwww.bc.edu/ec-p/baum/xtpattern2.ado xtpattern2.ado

presuming that your current working directory is /ado/personal (or however you might refer to it in your OS). No problem to install it elsewhere, as long as it is on the ADOPATH (and not in the Stata folder!)

xtpattern2 is intended to provide a superset of xtpattern's features. Its pattern output will differ if entire time periods are missing from the panel.
