Whether you’re a first-year graduate student or a seasoned research
professional, we have a package designed to suit your needs:
Stata/IC: Stata for moderate-sized datasets
Stata/SE: Stata for large datasets
Stata/MP: The fastest version of Stata (for dual-core and multicore/multiprocessor computers)
Stata/MP is the fastest and largest version of
Stata. Most computers purchased since mid 2006 can take advantage of the
advanced multiprocessing of Stata/MP. This includes the Intel CoreTM 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7,
and the AMD X2 dual-core chips. On dual-core chips, Stata/MP runs 40% faster
overall and 72% faster where it matters, on the time-consuming estimation
commands. With more than two cores, Stata/MP is even faster.
Find out more about Stata/MP.
Stata/MP, Stata/SE, and Stata/IC all run on any machine, but Stata/MP runs
faster. You can purchase a Stata/MP license for up to the number of cores
on your machine (maximum is 64). For example, if your machine has eight
cores, you can purchase a Stata/MP license for eight cores, four cores,
or two cores.
Stata/SE and Stata/IC differ only in the dataset size
that each can analyze.
Stata/MP and Stata/SE can fit models with more independent variables than
Stata/IC (up to 10,998).
Stata/IC allows datasets with as many as 2,047 variables.
The number of observations is limited only by the amount of RAM in your computer.
Stata/IC can have at most 798
right-hand-side variables in a model.
All the above flavors have the same complete set of commands and features
and include PDF documentation.
A single-user license for Stata is an identified-user license. The
registered user is the only authorized user of that license.
A single-user license allows Stata to be installed in up to three
locations (a computer at work, a computer at home, and a laptop) as long
as the authorized user is the only one with access to the software.
A single-user license may not be installed on a server and shared out over a network.
It must be installed on an individual machine.
Upgrade discounts are available for perpetual single-user licenses only.
Purchasing N copies of Stata under volume-purchase pricing does
not mean that the copies are "tied" together. For example,
you may elect to upgrade only 1 of the N copies and
wait to upgrade the other (N - 1) at a later time.
Compute-server licenses are available for Stata/MP (16-core) and above.
A compute-server license must be installed and run on a
single machine, whereas a network license may be installed and run
on individual machines.
An N-user compute-server license is a license that allows a
maximum of N concurrent users. It is a perpetual license
without an expiration date.
The minimum size compute-server license that may be purchased is a 25-user license.
The size of the license can be increased at any time at a reduced charge.
If you currently own a 25-user compute-server license, the price
of adding another user would be the price of adding user number 26.
A Stata term license is an N concurrent-user network license that expires after
one year. If a new release of Stata occurs during this year, the new
release is sent to the license holder at no additional charge.
The minimum size term license for Stata/IC and Stata/SE is 15. The minimum
size license for Stata/MP (2-core), Stata/MP (4-core), Stata/MP (6-core),
and Stata/MP (8-core) is 10. The minimum size license for Stata/MP
(12-core) and above is 5. Other license sizes are 25, 50, 100, 150, 200,
250, 300, 400, etc.
A Student Lab license is appropriate for student use or for use by
faculty for teaching. It is not appropriate for faculty research,
government, or corporate training.
The minimum-size Student Lab license is 10. A 10-user
Student Lab license is a license for 10 concurrent users. Stata
may be installed on a network, or you may install Stata on 10 individual
The Student Lab license is a perpetual license without an expiration date.
Maintenance allows you pay an annual charge and receive the next release of
Stata automatically and without extra charge. Many companies and
instutitions prefer a predictable annual cost. We have always offered via a
lease, but maintenance lets you combine an annual fee with a perpetual
When you purchase maintenance for Stata software, you will automatically be
sent any major release upgrades which are made available while your
maintenance agreement is in effect.
Maintenance charges are yearly, and maintenance may be purchased only
when you buy a new license or upgrade an existing one.
Updates and bug fixes for the purchased release of Stata are
automatically included with a perpetual license purchase and do not
require the purchase of maintenance.
Stata will run on the platforms listed below. While Stata software is
platform-specific, your Stata license is not; therefore, you need not
specify your operating system when placing your order for a license.
