Stata for Intel Macintosh
On January 10, Apple Computer announced the availability of its new
Intel-based Macintosh computers, MacBook and iMac. Concurrently, we would
like to announce the availability of Stata for Intel Macintosh: Small Stata,
Intercooled Stata, and Stata/SE.
Stata for Intel Macintosh has been completely adapted and recompiled for Intel
hardware, meaning that it will run at full speed on the Intel processor and
does not rely on any emulation. Our informal timings show that Apple's new
Intel-based platforms run Stata substantially faster than did the previous
generation of Macintoshes.
There is no extra cost for Stata for Intel Macintosh. In fact, the same
license may be used on Intel and PowerPC computers.
Current users will be able to obtain Stata for Intel Macintosh with any Stata
executable update after Thursday, January 19, 2006. Install your existing
Stata for Macintosh—it will run automatically in emulation mode—and then
type update all. The updated application is a "universal binary", meaning
that it is made to run at peak performance on both Intel- and PowerPC-based
Macintosh computers.
New users can order Stata for Intel Macintosh online now for immediate shipment.
