ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research
June–August 2013
The ICPSR Summer Program
in Quantitative Methods of Social Research is
recognized throughout the world as the preeminent forum for basic and
advanced training in the methodologies and technologies of social science
research. We serve a diverse multidisciplinary and international
constituency. Our general instructional philosophy emphasizes the
integration of methodological strategies with the theoretical and practical
concerns that arise in research on substantive social issues. The ICPSR
Summer Program also creates a unique and supportive social environment that
facilitates professional networking and encourages the exchange of ideas
about the theory and practice of social science research.
ICPSR has offered educational opportunities through the Summer Program
since 1963, when the first cohort of 82 participants arrived in Ann Arbor
for intensive training in quantitative methods. The Program has grown
mightily since that time. In 2012, ICPSR offered 43 four-week courses and
35 one-week workshops. It welcomed more than 1,000 participants who
represented 67 nations, 26 disciplines, and 312 institutions. Program
faculty members are recognized leaders in their fields. In 2012, more than
90 instructors from national and international institutions conducted ICPSR
courses. Now in its 50th year, the Program continues to provide high-quality
instruction and to offer an impressive range of course options.
The Summer Program takes place from early June to late August. In addition
to two four-week sets of courses in Ann Arbor, Michigan, ICPSR offers
intensive one-week workshops in Ann Arbor and at several additional sites.
