This is the first announcement and call for offers of presentations
at the 9th UK Stata User Group meeting. The programme and cost of
participation will be announced later.
The scientific organisers of the meeting are
Sophia Rabe–Hesketh (spaksrh@iop.kcl.ac.uk) and
Stephen Jenkins (stephenj@essex.ac.uk)
with the logistics organised by Timberlake Consultants, the distributors of
Stata in the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal
(http://www.timberlake.co.uk).
The meeting is open to all interested. In past years people have attended
not only from Britain, Ireland, and other European countries, but also
from the USA, Australia, and elsewhere. StataCorp will be represented.
There will be the usual `wishes and grumbles' session at which you may
air your thoughts to Stata developers. There will also be an optional
informal meal at a London restaurant on Monday evening (at additional cost).
We welcome offers of presentations. Please email either Sophia Rabe–Hesketh or
Stephen Jenkins if you are interested in offering (1) a 20 min talk (followed
by 10 min discussion), (2) a 10 min talk (5 min discussion), or (3) some other
presentation. Please contact us before 31 January 2003, and preferably
sooner! Presentations could focus on user-written Stata programs, case
studies of research or teaching using Stata, discussions of how particular
data management and (re)organisation or analysis problems have been solved,
surveys or critiques of Stata facilities in specific fields, etc. It has been
suggested that more talks with a tutorial flavour be offered, and we welcome
comments on that. Timberlake Consultants have generously agreed to sponsor
registration fee waivers for presentations (1 fee waiver per presentation,
regardless of number of authors involved).
The London meeting is the longest-running series of Stata users meetings.
Records of most of the meetings so far, both in London and elsewhere, can
be accessed via
http://www.stata.com/meeting/proceedings.html.
We look forward to hearing from you with presentation offers. Also get
in touch with us please if you would like to discuss the suitability of
a potential contribution. Confirmation of the programme, cost and
venue, and details of how to register will be circulated later, most
likely soon after the end of February 2003.
