What is a single-user license?
- A single-user license for Stata is a license that allows a maximum of
one simultaneous user of Stata.
- A single-user license allows Stata to be installed on a computer at work
and a computer at home, since it would be impossible for one person to be
using both computers at the same time.
- A single-user license allows Stata to be installed on a computer
at work that is in a public area and is used by multiple people, but it
may not be remotely accessed. If Stata has been installed in a "public"
computer that many people use, you may not also install it on a home
computer.
- A single-user license may not be installed on a network. The smallest
network license is a 2-user.
- A single-user license comes with either one
Complete Documentation Set or one
Base Documentation Set.

What is a network license?
- An N-user network license is a license that allows a maximum of
N simultaneous users. It is a perpetual license without
an expiration date.
- The minimum size network license that may be purchased is a 2-user.
- The size of the license can be increased at any time at a reduced charge.
If you currently own a 5-user network license, the cost
of adding another user would be the cost of adding user number 6.
- All network licenses come with either one
Complete Documentation Set or one
Base Documentation Set
regardless of the size of the network. Additional documentation may, of
course, be purchased.
- Upgrade discounts are offered as new releases of Stata become available.
- View the network license terms and conditions.
What is a volume purchase?
- Volume purchases are just purchases of
single-user licenses of Stata placed
at the same time in order to take advantage of falling per unit
costs.
- Volume purchases come with either one
Complete Documentation Set or one
Base Documentation Set
regardless of the quantity of licenses purchased. Additional
documentation may, of course, be purchased.
- Purchasing N copies of Stata under volume-purchase pricing does
not mean that the copies are "tied" together. For example,
you may elect to upgrade only 1 of the N copies and
wait to upgrade the other (N - 1) at a later time. With an
N-user network license, there is only one license, so it
cannot be broken up.

What is a lease license?
- A Stata lease is an N simultaneous-user license that expires after
one year. If a new release of Stata occurs during this year, the new
release is sent to the lease holder at no additional charge.
- There are three different leases available: Stata/SE and Stata/IC,
Stata/MP (2-processor), or Stata/MP (4-processor). The lease for
Stata/SE and Stata/IC does not include Stata/MP. The lease for
Stata/MP (2-processor) does not include Stata/MP (4-processor).
- The minimum size lease for Stata/SE and Stata/IC is 15. The minimum
size lease for Stata/MP (2-processor) or Stata/MP (4-processor)
is 10. Other license sizes are 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300,
400, etc.
- All Stata leases include one
Complete Documentation Set
and a one-year subscription to the
Stata Journal.

What is an Educational Lab license?
- An Educational Lab license is appropriate for student use or for use by
faculty for teaching. It is not appropriate for faculty research,
government or corporate training.
- The minimum-size Educational Lab license is 10. A 10-user
Educational Lab license is a license for 10 simultaneous users. Stata
may be installed on a network, or you may install Stata on 10 individual
computers.
- It is possible to purchase a combination Lab—say a 6-user Stata
for Windows license and a 4-user Stata for Macintosh license.
- The Educational Lab charge is a one-time charge and not an annual
fee.
- A Base Documentation Set
is included with the purchase of an Educational Lab regardless of the
size of the license. Additional documentation may, of course, be
purchased. A LabDoc is a very economical way of acquiring extra
documentation for a lab.
- Upgrade discounts are offered as new releases of Stata become available.
- A GradPlan is a great complement to any lab!
- View the Educational Lab license terms and conditions.
- GradPlans make it easy and inexpensive for your students to
acquire Stata 10.
- GradPlan licenses are single-user licenses and are available for Windows,
Macintosh, and Linux. The package includes the license, installation CD, and
Getting Started with Stata manual.
- There are three types of GradPlans:
- Campuswide
- Course-specific
- Reseller

How do Stata/MP, Stata/SE, Stata/IC, and Small Stata differ?
|
|
Stata/SE, Stata/IC, and Small Stata differ in the size of the dataset
that each one can analyze. Stata/MP is a parallel-processing-capable version
of Stata/SE. Here is a general guideline:
- Stata/MP—Stata for dual core and multicore/multiprocessor computers
- Stata/SE—Stata for large datasets
- Stata/IC—the "standard" version of Stata
- Small Stata—a smaller, "student" version of Stata
Stata/SE and Stata/MP allow datasets with up to 32,767 variables. The limit
of observations is based on the amount of RAM in your computer. Stata/SE and
Stata/MP allow matrices up to 11,000 x 11,000 on computers with sufficient
memory. An implication of this is that Stata/SE and Stata/MP can fit models
with more independent variables (up to 10,998) and fit certain panel-data
models with larger time-series within panel.
Stata/IC allows datasets with as many as 2,047 variables.
The limit of observations is based on the amount of RAM in your computer.
Stata/IC can have at most 798 right-hand-side variables in a model.
Small Stata is limited to analyzing datasets with a maximum of 99 variables on
approximately 1,000 observations. Small Stata can have at most 38
right-hand-side variables in a model.
