StataCorp, located in College Station, Texas, near the Texas A&M campus, develops and distributes Stata, software for statistical analysis. Stata statistical software has complete statistical, graphical, and data-management capabilities and is used by researchers of all disciplines.

ED-2: Technical Editor

StataCorp is seeking a Technical Editor to join its staff in College Station, Texas.

StataCorp produces a wide array of written materials in support of Stata customers, including

  • an extensive set of printed manuals consisting of over 8,000 pages of (what is intended to be) well-written documentation for the Stata software package

  • a corresponding set of online help documentation for the Stata software package

  • other books related to Stata and statistics, published by Stata Press, a division of StataCorp LP

  • the Stata Journal, a quarterly publication containing reviewed articles of interest to researchers applying statistics in a variety of disciplines

  • NetCourses, which provide distance learning over the web

  • an expanding number of FAQs

  • advertising materials, such as the Stata News

Communicating effectively with our customers is key to StataCorp's success. StataCorp has a reputation for excellence in communication, and a successful candidate will help us build upon that success.

Job duties will include

  • reviewing and correcting for style, clarity, grammar, and punctuation, and writing intended for use in the products listed above

  • reviewing public-relations material
The ideal candidate will have
  • a bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing/Communications or related field, or equivalent experience

  • minimum two years of editing experience

  • demonstrated ability to read and edit text that includes mathematical formulas

  • excellent command of English grammar and punctuation

  • the desire and ability to learn the basics of the Stata software

  • the ability to follow and develop StataCorp style guidelines

  • the ability to work with analysts to ensure published content is relevant, accurate, and well written
Good English-language skills and computer skills are essential; mathematical skills are a plus but are not required.

StataCorp is located in College Station, Texas, adjacent to the Texas A&M campus, and 90 miles northwest of Houston, 100 miles east of Austin, and 160 miles southeast of Dallas.
